Ms. Pooja Jhaver – Chairperson

An alumna of Loreto House, Calcutta and Carmel Convent, New Delhi, Ms. Jhaver graduated from St. Stephens College, Delhi University with an Honours degree in Economics. A keen scholar, she also completed a second BA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE) from the University of Oxford, England.

Passionate about schools and education from an early age, Ms. Jhaver went on to pursue post-graduate study at Teachers College, Columbia University. As part of her Master’s Programme in International and Comparative Education, she was introduced to varied international paradigms and developed a special interest in both, patterns of family and community education and the design of holistic learning environments. Upon her return to India, she spent time observing and conducting research for The School, Krishnamurti Foundation of India, Chennai, before finally giving shape to the founding framework of the Nirmal Bhartia School.

An inspired and enthusiastic life-long learner, she enjoys challenging herself in new ways. A spirited debater, an avid bibliophile and an ardent arts enthusiast with a passion for exploring creativity in art, craft traditions and design, she also has an eager interest in Indian philosophy and systems of knowledge.

A visionary with a firm belief in the power of community and holistic education, Ms. Jhaver inspires and leads by example.

Ms. Charu Wahi – Principal

An alumna of Carmel Convent and Modern School, Vasant Vihar, Ms Wahi completed her graduation in Psychology Honours at Lady Shri Ram College and then went on to pursue a Master’s degree in Applied Psychology and specialised in Child Development at the South Campus University, Delhi.

Having begun her career as an Elementary Educator at The Shri Ram School, her innate creativity and nuanced understanding of child development led her to soon head the organisation as Junior School Principal. Closely involved with the cause of Inclusive Education and the design of Special Educational Needs programmes, she has conducted intensive teacher training workshops all over the country.

An inspiring leader and motivated learner. Ms. Wahi continuously strives to keep abreast of the latest research in the field of education. She attended the Project Zero programme at Harvard University and has also completed courses in ‘Leading for Understanding and Coach Development’ as part of Harvard ’s Wide World Programme.

As Principal of the School she leads from the front, sharing her passion and encouraging all around her to keep learning and striving for perfection lifelong. Under her able leadership, the School’s innovative pedagogy, it’s fostering of excellence in teachers, it’s single minded focus on the individual child and it’s ever-growing efforts to strengthen bonds with the wider parent community have received much appreciation and acclaim.

A spontaneous poet with a witty sense of humour, she loves movies, music and travelling to previously uncharted destinations.

Ms. Vibha Bhasin – Head of Junior School

Ms. Bhasin completed her schooling from Lawrence School, Sanawar and graduated from Punjab University. She went on to pursue a Nursery and Primary Teacher’s Training Diploma and later attained a Bachelor’s Degree of Education from the Annamalai University.

She began her career at Father Agnel School and also served as Academic Coordinator at The Shri Ram School, Aravali. Dedicated and passionate about teaching, Ms. Bhasin has attended various teacher training workshops including the Reggio Emilia approach workshop and Dimensions of Learning by Guy J. Blackburn. She also completed an online course in ‘Strategies for Effective Classroom Practice’ from Harvard University.

With over twenty eight years of rich and diverse experience in the field, she has a quest for perfection and a determination to ensure that all those around her meet her exacting standards too.

Mr. Tathagata Dutta – Head of Senior School

An alumnus of Don Bosco School, Mr. Dutta completed his graduation from Ramakrishna Mission Residential College, University of Calcutta, with an honours degree in English Literature. He followed it up with a Master of Arts degree from Ramjas College, University of Delhi and then completed his Bachelors in Education from Central Institute of Education (CIE), University of Delhi. During his college days, he not only secured the prestigious K.C. Ghoshal Memorial prize, but also took up different leadership positions, including Student Panchayat president at CIE.

Mr. Dutta started his career as PGT English at Bal Bharati Public School, Dwarka, where he was also appointed as the Head of Department for English. Later, he joined The Shri Ram School, Moulsari as Academic Coordinator for middle school (CISCE curriculum). He continued to teach English Language and Literature at senior school and Theory of Knowledge for the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum. His endeavour has always been to keep students engaged with the subject in the classroom and enable them to make connections to the world around them. Mr. Dutta has also been associated with the CISCE council in various capacities, from Supervising Examiner to Team Leader for English.

Outside the classroom, Mr. Dutta takes an active interest in everything tech and keeps himself updated with the ever-evolving field of ed-tech. He takes a keen interest in co-curricular activities ranging from art and theatre to cycling and football. In his leisure, he loves to read, especially books by John le Carré and Gabirel Garcia Marquez.

Dr. Amit Sen

Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist

Dr. Amit Sen is Director and Co-founder of Children First, a leading institute for child & adolescent mental health and the founding Head of the Mental Health Team at Salaam Baalak Trust, an NGO working with street children. Mr. Sen also works with the UN Human Rights Commission and other organisations in the area of child sexual abuse and juvenile justice.

Ms. Amita Baig

Director – World Monuments Fund

Ms. Amita Baig is a Heritage Management Consultant to the World Monuments Fund (WMF) in India, the Namgyal Institute for Research on Ladakhi Art and Culture, UNESCO, the Taj Mahal Conservation initiative and is a founder Trustee of the Jaisalmer Heritage Trust. She joined the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage at its inception and was Director General of the Architectural Heritage Division from 1993 to 1999. Ms. Amita Baig has published two books – Forts and Palaces of India, and Taj Mahal: Multiple Narratives, co-authored with Rahul Mehrotra.

Dr. Amrita Dass

Director – Institute for Career Studies

Dr. Amrita Dass is the Founding Director of the Institute for Career Studies and has pioneered career counselling and guidance services in the country. She is a recipient of the Lions Club Award for outstanding Social Work and the Rotary Award for Vocational Excellence. More recently she has been felicitated with the ‘Woman Achiever’ Award by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and the ‘Award for Excellence in Education’ by the Times Group. She serves on the board of many prestigious schools and writes on a wide range of educational, career and leadership issues.

Dr. Kavita Sharma

Educationist

Dr. Kavita Sharma has served as President, The South Asian University, Director of the India International Centre and Principal of Hindu College, DU. An active contributor to the cause of higher education through her teaching, publications and leadership of institutions, she has published a number of books including Internationalisation of Education, Sixty Years of University Grants Commission, and The Windmills of the Mind apart from several research papers in reputed national and international publications. Dr. Sharma holds a PhD Degree in English from the University of Delhi and an LLM degree from the University of British Columbia, Canada. A Fullbright Fellow, she was conferred the Indira Gandhi Sadbhavana Award by the National Integration and Economic Council in 2005.

Ms. Leena Aparajit

Educationist

Ms. Leena Aparajit is an eminent educator with a formidable reputation as an inspiring leader and mentor. Having most recently served as Executive Director of the Shiv Nadar Schools, she has previously worked with The Aga Khan Education Service in addition to having set up and led the Senior wing of The Sri Ram School, DLF in the early years of her career. Presently working as an independent educational consultant, she serves on the board of several eminent schools across the country.

Ms. Manjari Chaturvedi

Sufi Kathak Dancer

Ms. Manjari Chaturvedi is a renowned Sufi Kathak Dancer, trained in the Lucknow gharana of Kathak under the guidance of Shri Arjun Mishra. She has also studied abhinaya under Kalanidhi Narayan at Protima Bedi’s Nrityagram. Particularly drawn to Sufi mysticism, she is credited with having created the new dance form of Sufi Kathak. Manjariji has been the part of the Sufi Symposium at the prestigious Smithsonian Museum Washington D.C. and of the conference on Living heritage by UNESCO and serves as a Jury member of the ‘Think Tank on Asian Dance’ for the Asian Dance Committee in Korea.

Mr. Raj Jain

Strategic Consultant

Mr. Raj Jain is the Founder and MD of Bounce Inc., a strategy and operations consulting firm. He has previously led the Times of India group as CEO in addition to having served as MD & CEO of Bharti Retail and MD & CEO of Bharti Walmart. Mr. Jain has an Engineering Degree from Delhi University and an Executive MBA degree from the Kellogg School of Business.

Mr. U.S.Bhartia

Chairman, Bhartia Group

Mr. U.S.Bhartia is the Chairman of the Bhartia Group. He has been the Managing Director of India Glycols Limited, the Group’s flagship company for over 24 years and has contributed immensely to developing and introducing quality chemicals with a low carbon footprint. Committed to protecting the environment, he is known for pursuing a business excellence model based on sustainable development. In recognition of his contribution, he was conferred the ‘Business Leader of the Year – Innovation’ Award for 2013 by Chemtech Foundation and the Udyog Ratna award in 2005. He is also a co-founder of Ashoka University. Mr. Bhartia leads several philanthropic and social responsibility initiatives.
