THE Aham-Sah WAY

In keeping with the founding tenets our vision and mission, a distinctive pattern to life at NiBS is that children learn not in isolation, but as part of a loving and vibrant community where members experience a deep sense of well-being and purpose as a result of their inter-connectedness with others and the world around.

Our team has worked hard to optimally nurture this pattern, so that our children may experience in full measure the Power of the Aham-Sah Way.

The power of home, school and community partnerships

Educators at NiBS do not work alone; they reach out and partner with parents, the extended family and with an entire community of aritistes, nutritionists, storytellers and thought leaders. Parental participation is recognised as a vital component in a child’s education, and when parents and educators work together, they create a learning environment without conflict – one that is secure, creative, healthy and happy and that extends seamlessly from home to school and into the world beyond. Community partnerships help widen our horizons and expand our range of learning opportunities in rich, organic and natural ways.

The power of learning from life

Our educators continually update the curriculum to ensure that it remains intimately connected to the life experiences of our children and responsive to the needs of the community. Thus field trips, interdisciplinary projects, interactions with guest experts and community service, are all an integral part of our programme. Natural, authentic enquiry into life’s challenges and opportunities nurture creativity in our children, help them collaborate with others, learn life skills and interact with the leading thinkers in the field of the arts, craft, literature and science.

The power of individual attention

In order to give our children the absolute advantage of experiencing inter-connectedness, it is imperative that we first understand their individual mental, physical, emotional and developmental needs in the best possible way. This cannot happen without giving them sufficient personal attention. Thus at NiBS, we are careful not to lose the advantage of staying small and focused. Our teachers use various methods to ensure that they truly ‘know’ each and every child – their interests, what inspires and motivates them and what turns them inward. In order to help them do so, we maintain an optimal staff-student ratio of 1:10. The overall school size too has deliberately been limited to three sections per grade.

The power of learning together

Our community culture recognises and places great value on the potential learning that can be had from interpersonal interactions and a sharing of experiences and perspectives. Indeed, we believe that one of the best ways for students to learn is with and from each other, in cooperative and collaborative ways. Thus rather than being passive receivers, our students debate and discuss, review each other’s work and learn through presentations and projects in the true spirit of community. Since most of life’s really important tasks involve working with others, they are uniquely equipped to achieve what they set out to do in the real world.

The power of learning all day, every day… lifelong!

At no point in time do we wish our children to ‘shut down’ on the ringing of a bell.

In keeping with our passionate pursuit of excellence, learning never comes to an end at NiBS. Innovative after-school programmes and weekend family events ensure that it continues even beyond school hours. An annual calendar of enriching talks, workshops, and seminars also ensures that each adult member of our team – parent, teacher or family member, is encouraged to be an enthusiastic life-long learner, thereby setting standards and inspiring younger members to do the same.
